Muffins and Eurovision

Somehow my evening has culminated in a combination of

this:

(from cbc.ca/)

and this:

Yum! Lemon muffins with raspberries from www.smittenkitchen.com/. I made a half batch and only just pulled them out of the oven.

I am also, right this moment, watching eurovision. I like Moldova for her dress and crazy backup dancers. Estonia for the cute fringes and the whole all girl string quartet deal. Israel also get props for their drumwork. And then there's Armenia's hilarious combination of a trashy dance/pop song and

such amazing outfits... but it's nothing really compared to the Ukraine's entry. Men in roman headdresses pulling along a crazy drumming lady. I wish I could find a photo. But for some reason what I saw only seconds ago with my own eyes doesn't seem to exist...

My favorites though are Portugal. Who doesn't love cute hairpieces and acordians?

(from eurovision.tv)

Gah. I squished their faces trying to make the picture smaller. Stooooopid.

Then of course there is Germany with their interesting swing inspired song. Oh the pants! SO shiny. But the men's pants were made up for by the women's. And by the special guest:

The line up the back of her stocking was made of GLITTER!

the worst day everrrrrr

Okay. So I got a parking ticket. But I saw them doing it. I saw them put it on my car. If I had been just two minutes quicker I could have NOT got a parking ticket. That would have been swell. This reminds me of several things:

  • the radio has been crap the last few days
  • Modest Mouse are nice
  • Modest Mouse remind me of Elliott Smith
  • Ben Folds wrote a song about Elliott Smith
  • at least I think it's about that Elliott
  • it's a great song
  • it's called "late"
  • listen to it today
  • Imma put it on now and drink some free tea

today will be a much better day

In the words of our most feared and despised Celine Dion: A New Day Has Come

Personally I am more than a little disturbed by my choice of reference to begin this post, but I had to go with my first thought, and my first thought was an annoying one. The good news is: Beardy and Indie is getting... I was going to say a facelift, but its effects will be more akin to gastric bypass surgery. Not that we're getting slowly smaller and greyer (as in the case of Mikey Robbins), but we're changing our metaphorical "lifestyle" rather than our metaphorical "appearance". I'm probably not making this any clearer (but thankyou anyway creative writing degree and thankyou too communications degree - I'm almost sure at least one of you will come in handy later on). What I'm saying is: we're getting some focus and starting afresh as a music and street blog. We still might tend towards lengthy rhyme games and James Van-Der-Beek mud slinging matches, but we want to be able to tie it in to one central theme and I think for Steph and I the logical topic is music. So, I look forward to telling you all about my most recent musical discoveries and also to showing you some fine fine beardwork. And NOW to a cashiers meeeting, most esteemed of all meetings that ever were orchestrated in a discount supermarket.
